Marcel – From My Personal View
Marcel is a young artist with big dreams and a powerful sense of purpose. His painting journey began at a very young age, when one of his former primary school teachers became unwell. Wanting to cheer her up, Marcel created a painting for her, remembering how much she had always loved his drawings — especially a sketch he once made of a wasp. That simple, kind gesture became the beginning of something much bigger.
Soon after, more teachers began asking Marcel to paint for them, and by the age of ten he had started creating and selling his artwork. Since then, his journey has grown steadily. Marcel has been featured in both local and international newspapers, as well as in an international magazine for artists. He has taken part in numerous events, including charity projects, donating his artwork to causes such as Cancer Research, Helen Rollason, and St Clare Hospice — helping to raise over £5,000.
One of Marcel’s personal milestones was leading a workshop at a local school for children — standing confidently at the front, sharing his creativity, and truly coming into his own. Today, he is an inspiration to many children locally, showing that age doesn’t limit impact when passion and kindness lead the way.
Now 14, Marcel’s strongest artistic themes lie in space, abstract work, and ocean life. His art reflects curiosity, imagination, and emotion well beyond his years. His personal motto, “Don’t lose your colours…”, continues to guide not only his art but also his outlook on life.
From my personal and professional view, writing about Marcel is not easy — he is my son, after all. What I can say with certainty is that he is kind, thoughtful, and strong-minded, always standing up for himself while remaining respectful of others. Like any teenager, this stage of life can be challenging — full of emotions, growth, and discovery — and that’s something I live with and learn from every day.
Watching Marcel grow as an artist and as a person is a journey filled with pride, humility, and constant learning. His story is still being written, and whatever path he chooses, his colours are already lighting the way.
