Pickles – From My Personal View
Step into Pickles’ world of whimsy and imagination, where every painting tells a “tail” of adventure and canine creativity — leaving tails wagging and hearts melting. Pickles is a Golden Retriever therapy dog and our very own Pawcasso, proving that art truly has no limits… or species.
Using a wonderfully unique process, a silhouette is first cut and placed onto a blank canvas. An array of colours is then squirted over the surface, which is sealed inside a freezer bag — and that’s where Pickles comes in. With his tongue, he gently licks the top of the bag, moving the paint beneath and creating lively, expressive compositions. Once complete, the bag and silhouette are removed, revealing a joyful and surprisingly sophisticated piece of art.
Pickles’ work has captured hearts far and wide. He has been interviewed by the BBC, featured in publications including The Week Junior, has a piece displayed in the Houses of Parliament, has sold work, taken commissions, held his own exhibition, and even received endorsement from MP Chris Vince. And yet, despite all this acclaim, Pickles remains delightfully modest — happiest snuggled up in bed in the evening, watching television.
From my personal view, it was truly lovely to meet Pickles earlier this year, in 2025. Giving him plenty of strokes was a joy in itself, but what made the moment extra special was watching him give an amazing presentation alongside my son, Marcel. Pickles wagging his tail, Marcel smiling proudly, and people passing by stopping with big smiles on their faces — it was one of those moments that perfectly captured why art, connection, and community matter so much.
Pickles doesn’t just create art — he spreads happiness, curiosity, and warmth wherever he goes and having a four-pawed artist in our community feels pretty special.
